Coal Valley, Illinois takes its name from the mines that once worked the seams along the Rock River, and today it is a village of roughly four thousand south of the Quad City airport, known to families across the metro for Niabi Zoo and to commuters for the stretch of Route 6 that ties it to Moline and Milan.
