Silvis, Illinois grew up around a railroad shop and now sits at the eastern edge of the Quad Cities, four miles east of Moline along Avenue of the Cities, with a population of roughly seven and a half thousand, best known outside the county for Hero Street, the block that sent more sons to the Second World War and Korea than any street its size in the country, and for TPC Deere Run, where the John Deere Classic is played each summer.
